Oceans Legacy
Oceans Legacy is a Western Australian tackle brand, founded in Perth in 2017 by angler Alan Koh and built around one idea: every piece of the setup should be designed to work with the rest. Rods, the Elementus reel, jigs, stickbaits, hooks, assists, braid and leader all come from the same drawing board, and all of it is tested on the WA coast before it goes on sale.

Elementus SPJ: The Oceans Legacy Slow Pitch Reel
Reels: The Elementus SPJ, Oceans Legacy's lever-drag overhead reel for slow pitch jigging, in 20 and 30 sizes.
Elementus SPJ is the only reel Oceans Legacy makes. It's a compact overhead built for slow pitch jigging, with:
- a one-piece CNC-machined aluminium frame
- a heat-treated marine-grade bronze main gear and stainless pinion
- 9 anti-corrosion shielded bearings
- a narrow spool
- dual carbon drag washers on a jigging-tuned drag cam
Drag is set by a side-plate lever with a FULL marking, so drag changes are quick and repeatable. The overhead format lets you thumb the spool and control the jig on the fall, which is why most dedicated slow pitch anglers fish overhead.
Elementus 20 (6.2:1, up to 99cm per turn, 464g) is the lighter, more compact reel for PE2–3 outfits and lighter jigs. It holds PE2 540m, PE3 370m or PE4 270m.
Elementus 30 (5.8:1, up to 108cm per turn, 534g) has a larger spool that holds more line (PE2 800m, PE3 540m, PE4 390m) and recovers more line per crank than the 20, despite its lower ratio. Choose it for PE3–4, heavier jigs, deeper drops or bigger fish.
Both sizes have a 25kg maximum drag, with a manufacturer's recommended working maximum of 15–18kg. On a slow pitch outfit, set the drag to suit your PE line, which is usually well below those figures. Yes. Oceans Legacy is based in Forrestdale, Western Australia, and was founded in 2017 by Perth angler Alan Koh, who is still the owner and lead product tester. Blanks use Japanese Toray carbon and Fuji fittings, but every rod is built in the brand's own facility.

Does Oceans Legacy make gear for the river and the beach?
