What torch for fishing?
A rechargeable head torch with red-light mode is most practical — keeps hands free and red light preserves night vision. 200-400 lumens is plenty. Ledlenser and Nextorch make excellent fishing-grade head torches.
Why do I need a red light mode?
Red light doesn't destroy your night vision (unlike white light). It takes 20-30 minutes for eyes to fully adapt to darkness — a blast of white light resets this. Red lets you tie knots and manage gear while keeping night vision.
Are torch lighters useful for fishing?
Yes — windproof jet lighters are perfect for melting braid tag ends after tying knots. The melted blob prevents braid slipping through knots. Also handy for sealing shrink tube on hook rigs.
What about waterproofing?
For boat and rock fishing, IPX7 or higher waterproof rating is important — torches will get splashed or dropped in water. Ledlenser models offer excellent waterproofing.
