Is fluorocarbon really invisible to fish?
It has nearly the same refractive index as water, making it significantly less visible than mono. In clear Perth waters, it makes a noticeable difference to bite rates, especially for line-shy species like bream.
How long should my fluorocarbon leader be?
For lure fishing, 1-2 metres standard. For bait fishing or extra abrasion protection, 2-4 metres. In super clear water, some extend to a full rod length.
What knot for braid to fluorocarbon?
The FG knot is the gold standard — slim enough to pass through guides and incredibly strong. Double uni is easier and fine for lighter applications.
What's the difference between cheap and premium fluoro?
Premium Japanese fluorocarbon (Sunline, Yamatoyo) uses better resins providing superior knot strength, consistent diameter, and abrasion resistance. Worth it when targeting big fish on light leader.
