Should I use snaps for lure fishing?
Quality snaps (like BKK Duolock or Decoy) allow quick lure changes without re-tying and give lures slightly more freedom of movement. Most serious lure anglers use them. Just ensure they're strong enough for your target species.
What size snap for fishing?
Match snap breaking strain to your setup. For estuary (PE0.6-1): small snaps rated 15-25lb. Inshore casting (PE2-3): 40-60lb rated. Offshore: 80-100lb+.
Do snaps affect lure action?
Quality snaps that are appropriately sized won't noticeably affect action and may actually improve it by giving the lure more pivot freedom. Avoid oversized heavy snaps on small lures.
Cross-lock vs duolock snaps?
Duolocks are sleeker and lighter — preferred for finesse applications. Cross-locks are stronger and more secure but bulkier — better for heavier applications. Both work; choose based on your fishing weight class.
