Shore Casting Rods
Shore casting rods are built for anglers who chase big fish from the rocks, jetties, and headlands — no boat required. These powerful rods are designed to cast heavy lures long distances and fight hard-pulling pelagics from elevated rock platforms and coastal structure, where the angler needs to control fish and prevent them from reaching the reef.
Western Australia's coastline is a shore-based angler's paradise. From the rock ledges of Kalbarri and Steep Point to the metro spots around Rottnest and the south-west capes, WA offers incredible landbased opportunities for samsonfish, yellowtail kingfish, giant trevally, tuna, and mulloway. Rock fishing and shore casting have exploded in popularity across Perth, and the right rod is critical for both casting performance and fish-fighting control from the shore.
At Compleat Angler Nedlands, we stock an extensive shore casting range from premium brands including MC Works (Raging Bull series — Volcanic Island Special, Ultimate Rock Shore, Range Plugging), Ripple Fisher (Monster Impact, Runner Exceed, Final Stand Up), Yamaga Blanks (Blue Sniper, Ballistick, Early For Seabass), Oceans Legacy (Aurora Ledge Spec, Genesis Rock Addiction, BackLine), Shimano (Coltsniper, Dialuna, Hard Rocker), Maph (Demersals and Pelagics Landbased), Jigging Master (Gangster Shore Game, Platinum Shore Game), Daiwa, Feed, and Wilson.

What's the best shore casting rod for rock fishing in WA?
For serious rock fishing in WA, we recommend rods rated PE4–8 in the 9'6"–10'6" range. The MC Works Raging Bull series is the gold standard for rock shore, while the Ripple Fisher Runner Exceed and Yamaga Blue Sniper are also excellent choices. Match the rod rating to your target species and the terrain you'll be fishing.
What species can I catch shore casting in Perth?
Perth and the wider WA coastline offer landbased opportunities for samsonfish, yellowtail kingfish, giant trevally, Spanish mackerel, tuna, mulloway, tailor, and various reef species. Rock platforms, jetties, and headlands along the coast all produce quality fish for shore-based anglers.
What's the difference between a shore casting rod and a surf rod?
Shore casting rods are designed for casting lures (stickbaits, poppers, jigs) from rock platforms and headlands, with powerful blanks for fighting large pelagics. Surf rods are longer and more flexible, designed for casting bait long distances from sandy beaches. Different tools for different applications.
Do you stock landbased demersal rods?
Yes, we stock the Maph Demersals Landbased Rod, specifically designed for targeting demersal species from the shore. We also carry the Maph Pelagics V2 for landbased pelagic work. Both are popular with WA rock fishers targeting species from elevated ledges and platforms.
