Fly Fishing Combos
Fly fishing combos are the easiest way to get into fly fishing — a matched rod, reel, and line package that takes the guesswork out of building your first setup. Whether you're chasing trout in the south-west rivers, targeting bream on fly in the Swan River, or heading to the Kimberley for barramundi on the long rod, a quality combo gets you on the water quickly and affordably.
Western Australia offers diverse fly fishing opportunities that many anglers overlook. The south-west rivers around Pemberton and Manjimup hold stocked trout, while Perth's estuaries offer exciting sight-fishing for black bream, flathead, and skipjack trevally on fly. Further north, the Kimberley region provides world-class barramundi and mangrove jack fly fishing. Even the metro saltwater flats produce quality fish for fly anglers who know where to look.
At Compleat Angler Nedlands, we stock fly fishing combos from Redington (Crosswater II Combo and Path II Combo) and Gillies (Fly Fishing Outfit). These combos include everything you need to start fly fishing — rod, reel, fly line, and backing — all balanced and ready to fish straight from the box. They're ideal for beginners, holiday anglers, or as a backup setup.

What fly fishing combo is best for beginners?
The Redington Crosswater II and Path II combos are both excellent beginner-friendly options. They come with a matched rod, reel, line, and backing ready to fish. A 5 or 6 weight is the most versatile choice for learning, suitable for both freshwater trout and estuary species.
Can I fly fish in Perth?
Absolutely! Perth's Swan River and surrounding estuaries offer excellent fly fishing for black bream, flathead, skipjack trevally, and even mulloway. The south-west rivers hold stocked trout, and the saltwater flats around Mandurah and Cockburn Sound produce quality fish on fly.
What weight fly combo should I get for WA?
For general estuary use in WA, a 6 weight combo is the most versatile. For trout in the south-west, a 4–5 weight is ideal. For saltwater flats and bigger species, consider an 8 weight. If you can only have one, a 6 weight covers the widest range of WA applications.
What's included in a fly fishing combo?
Our fly fishing combos include a matched fly rod, fly reel, fly line, and backing — everything needed to start casting. Some packages also include a rod tube or carry case. You'll just need to add a leader, tippet, and flies for your target species to be fishing-ready.
