NT-DESIGNED SOFT PLASTICS FOR BARRA, MULLOWAY & BREAM

Irukandji

Irukandji soft plastics are designed, tested and refined in the Northern Territory, where barramundi and mangrove jack chew through ordinary lures. That's why the plastic is tough and the swimming action is strong. The Megaprawn paddle-tail and the Sicario swimbait are the two designs that built the brand, and both come in a full size run from 80mm to 275mm.

The small sizes are the ones Perth anglers overlook. A Megaprawn 80 or 100 on a light jig head is deadly on Swan and Canning bream, flathead and flounder; a Sicario 125 or 150 is a proven river mulloway lure. Compleat Angler Nedlands stocks the full size and colour range plus the Iron Claw jig heads to rig them. Browse below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do Irukandji Megaprawn and Sicario come in?

Megaprawn runs 80, 100, 125, 130 and 165mm. Sicario runs 100, 125, 175, 225 and 275mm, with DTF (Direct To Fish) pre-rigged versions in 100 to 175mm. The 80 to 130mm sizes suit bream, flathead and flounder; 150 to 175mm suits river mulloway; the big Sicarios are for barra, cod and jacks.

Which Irukandji plastic for Swan River mulloway?

The Sicario 150 or 175 on a 1/2 to 1oz jig head, worked slowly along the bottom around bridge pylons and drop-offs at night. The Sicario DTF comes pre-rigged with BKK Viper trebles if you don't want to rig your own.

What jig head should I use with Irukandji plastics?

Irukandji's own Iron Claw jig heads were three years in development and are built to match the plastics' hook-slot and weight. For the small Megaprawns on bream and flathead, a 1/8 to 1/4oz head with a 2/0 to 3/0 hook; for the big Sicarios, a 3/4 to 1.5oz head with a 7/0 to 8/0.

Can I store Irukandji plastics with my other soft plastics?

Keep the Sicario (soft PVC) and the Sicario DTF (TPE) in separate compartments; the two materials react if stored touching. Store them flat in their original packets or a plastics wallet.

Does Irukandji make rods?

Yes. The Serpentes series are baitcast rods built for structure fishing with spiral-wrapped titanium guides. They're a barra and jack rod first, and we stock them at Nedlands alongside the plastics.
