Kids Rods
Get the kids hooked on fishing with our junior rods and combos at Compleat Angler Nedlands. We stock from Shimano and Mastergrip — age-appropriate rods that are light enough for small hands but tough enough to land real fish.
Getting kids into fishing is one of the best things you can do — and the right gear makes it fun, not frustrating. Our junior setups are sized for young anglers while still being capable of catching fish.

What age can kids start fishing?
Kids as young as 3-4 can start with a hand-line or very short rod. Purpose-built junior rods (4-5ft) suit ages 4-8. By age 8-10, most kids can handle a short adult rod (6-6'6").
What's the best starter setup for a child?
A pre-spooled combo with a 4'6"-5'6" rod and small spinning reel. Keep it simple — monofilament line, a few hooks, sinkers, and live bait. Success (catching fish!) is more important than technique at this stage.
Should I buy expensive gear for kids?
No — start with budget-friendly gear. Kids drop rods, stand on them, and lose interest quickly some days. Invest in quality gear once they show sustained interest. That said, avoid the absolute cheapest — gear that doesn't work frustrates everyone.
Where's the best place to take kids fishing in Perth?
Jetties are ideal — sheltered, safe, and productive. Try Woodman Point, Coogee jetty, or the Fremantle fishing boat harbour. Herring, blowfish, and small species keep kids entertained with regular bites.
