How to work a popper?

Short sharp rod sweeps with tip down create blooping/splashing action. Vary cadence — sometimes aggressive rapid pops, other times slow pop-pause-pop.

Popper vs stickbait?

Poppers have a cupped face creating splash and noise. Stickbaits are pencil-shaped with walking or darting action. Poppers are louder; stickbaits are subtler.
