Do I need a fighting belt for jigging?
If you jig regularly, a simple gimbal pad or fighting belt protects your body from rod butt pressure and lets you use your body more efficiently. Even a basic belt makes a huge difference on long jigging days.
What's the difference between a gimbal and harness?
A gimbal is a cup/plate that holds the rod butt, worn on a belt or attached to a chair. A harness connects your body to the reel via shoulder straps, distributing the load. Harnesses are for seriously heavy-duty game fishing.
What fighting belt for slow-pitch jigging?
A light gimbal plate on a padded belt is ideal — provides a fulcrum point for the rod butt without weighing you down. MC Works and Oceans Legacy make purpose-designed jigging belts.
When do I need a full harness?
For stand-up game fishing targeting marlin, large tuna, or other powerful species on heavy tackle (37kg+ line class). The harness lets you use your back and legs rather than just your arms.
