What's a dredge?
A frame of artificial baitfish (no hooks) towed beneath the surface behind your boat. It simulates a fleeing bait school, attracting game fish from a distance by appealing to their predatory instinct.
Do dredges actually work?
Yes — dredges have become standard equipment on serious game boats worldwide. They're particularly effective for raising marlin and tuna. The visual presence of a 'bait school' dramatically increases bite rates.
What size dredge do I need?
Start with a single-arm dredge (4-8 baits). Larger multi-arm dredges are more effective but heavier to deploy. Your boat size and downrigger/outrigger capacity determines what you can tow.
What are teasers?
Any hookless attraction device — can be a dredge, a daisy chain of plastic squids, or a bird teaser. All create commotion and simulate fleeing bait. They attract game fish into range of your hooked lures.
