Do I need outriggers?
If you troll with more than 2 lines, outriggers spread your baits/lures to cover more water without tangles. They're essential for serious trolling spreads but not needed for basic boat fishing.
What length outriggers for my boat?
Generally 1-1.5x your beam width. Small boats (under 6m): 4-5m poles. Larger boats: 6-8m+. Longer poles spread lines wider but need stronger bases.
What outrigger clips should I use?
Release clips should match your line class — too tight and they won't release on strike; too loose and waves trip them. Adjustable tension clips are most versatile. Carry spares.
Carbon vs aluminium outriggers?
Carbon fibre is lighter, stiffer, and more expensive — reduces weight aloft and looks great. Aluminium is heavier but more affordable and very durable. Both work well.
