WA-DESIGNED RIGS, HYBRID JIGS & TERMINAL TACKLE
Vexed
Vexed was created in 2006 by Paul "P Willy" Willis, a Western Australian angler who was sick of missing bites and losing baits off his jig heads. The answer came at 2am in his shed: the Bottom Meat, the first hybrid jig and bait assist of its kind, now in its third design and available from 20g to 1kg. It's still the product Vexed is famous for, but it's a small part of what the brand makes.
Compleat Angler Nedlands stocks the full Vexed range: Bottom Meats, Micro Meats and Bottom Worms, jigs and lead heads, over 30 pre-tied rigs for everything from KG whiting to mulloway and deep drop, and the hooks, snaps, swivels, sinkers, gaffs and grippers that fill the rest of the tackle box. Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Vexed Bottom Meat and how do I fish it?
The Bottom Meat is a heavy glow jig head with three assist hooks under a lumo skirt. You feed a strip bait, whole squid or octopus leg over the hooks and drop it to the bottom. It fishes from a drifting boat with the rod in the holder, a metre off the bottom, and gets bitten on days when a plain paternoster doesn't. Sizes run from 20g to 1kg.
What's the difference between Bottom Meat Classic and Slow Pitch Tuned?
The Classic has a heavier BKK jigging hook for anglers on PE5–10 tackle and electric reels. The Slow Pitch Tuned has a finer BKK hook that sets more easily on PE1.5–4 slow pitch outfits. Both target the same fish; the difference is the tackle you're fishing it on.
Does Vexed make gear for whiting and river fishing?
Yes. The Micro Meat is a 3.5g to 130g hybrid designed for whiting, bream and flathead, either baited or fished bare as a micro jig. Vexed also make the KG Whiting Rig, Whiting Paternoster, Sand Whiting Rig, Bread and Butter Rig and Double Header Whiting Rig, all pre-tied on quality hooks.
Which Vexed rig for mulloway off the beach?
The Vexed Premium Ultimate Mulloway Paternoster Rig is tied on heavy mono with circle hooks for whole baits and live baits off the beach or at the cuts. For tailor, the Tarpon Gang and Long Cast Tarpon Gang Paternoster rigs are the ones to grab.
Is Vexed made in Australia?
Vexed is designed in Western Australia by Paul Willis and distributed through Red Mullet Distributors in WA. Compleat Angler Nedlands stocks over 115 Vexed lines and our team fishes the gear, so we can tell you which weight and rig suits where you're heading.
