Oceans Legacy Rods
Oceans Legacy builds a different blank for each job, so slow pitch rods, heavy jigging rods, offshore poppers, shore-casting rods, surf rods and estuary finesse rods each get their own. The Western Australian brand began in 2017 with the Slow Element and Origin slow pitch rods. Its rods are built on Japanese Toray carbon with Fuji guides and reel seats, and the brand says every rod "is built in-house at our own facilities".

Choosing an Oceans Legacy Rod
Start with the technique, then the rating. A slow pitch rod has to load and recover to work the jig. A heavy jigging rod has to lift samsonfish off the bottom. An offshore casting rod has to throw your actual lures all day. Compare the exact model's PE rating, jig or casting weight and length before you compare price. A premium rod built for the wrong job will fish worse than a cheaper rod matched to it. Oceans Legacy's pricier rods aren't just "better" versions of the cheaper ones: Focal II isn't a better Insight, and Adrenalin isn't a better Slow Element.
Light & Estuary Rods
Quest Inshore Finesse is the true finesse range. The spin rods weigh 58–70g and run from 2–4lb up to 6–12lb, and there are longer PE0.8–1.5 models for whiting popping and distance. It was tested in the Peel Inlet and on the Blackwood and Kalgan rivers, so it suits Swan and Canning bream, flathead and King George whiting.
Insight BFS is the bait-finesse baitcaster, rated 2–6lb or 4–8lb with lures up to 6–10g, for bream, flathead, bass and mangrove jack on small plastics and hardbodies.
Insight has 15 models, 10 baitcast and 5 spin, from 6–12lb up to 20–30lb. It's an extra-fast lure rod for creek, estuary, bay and reef-flat fishing: soft plastics, hardbodies and metals around structure, with enough backbone to pull jacks and cod out of cover. Pick the line rating to suit the water rather than treating every Insight as a bream rod.
Aurora Flats and Inshore Spec are light spin rods (2–12lb) for sand-flat and shoreline lure work.
Squid Rods
Dream Cast Squid Seeker is a dedicated egi range on 40-tonne Toray carbon with a smooth, slow taper. It has three land-based models (PE0.4–1.2, egi 2.0–4.5) and one boat model. It was tested over two years around Albany and Esperance, and it's just as much at home on Perth's metro jetties and weed banks.
Offshore Casting Rods
The Element casting rods are the entry point. Inshore Casting Element (2.13m / 7ft, PE2–3) throws metals, plastics and hardbodies at tailor, trevally, mulloway and whiting. Offshore Element (PE3–6, 30–110g) handles topwater and big minnows on the boat.
Cloud 9 is a spin range from PE1 to PE4 for soft plastics, small stickbaits and metals inshore and offshore. Match the PE to your lures: a PE4 Cloud 9 isn't an estuary rod.
Focal and Focal II follow Oceans Legacy's "Dual Combat" idea: one rod for stickbaits, poppers, big minnows and soft plastics. Focal II runs PE2 to PE8 for kingfish, tuna and Spanish mackerel.
Aggressor is a dedicated heavy offshore plugging rod (PE6–10). Aggressor Long Cast (2.49–2.64m / 8'2"–8'8") adds distance. Its ratings overlap with Focal II at PE6–8, so compare the individual model rather than treating Aggressor as an automatic upgrade.
Raptus (PE8–12, 100–230g) is the heavy popping rod for GTs and big yellowfin, tested at the Montebellos and Cocos Keeling.
Shore Casting & Surf Rods
Dream Cast (PE1–3) and Dream Cast II (PE2–3+, 12–80g) are 2.64–2.95m (8'8"–9'8") land-based lure rods for tailor, salmon, bonito and school mackerel.
Long Cast Specialist (PE2–6) is built for maximum distance from the rocks, on Spanish mackerel, kingfish and tuna.
Genesis Light Game (PE2.5–4) steps up for trevally, bonito and bigger salmon. Genesis Rock Addiction (PE5–8) is the heavy land-based game rod for kingfish, samsonfish, tuna and GTs.
Aurora Ledge Spec (PE5–8) is a 2.79m (9'2") ledge rod.
For the beach, Aurora Surf Light (PE2–3, 2.59–2.79m) suits lighter lure and bait work. Aurora Surf Heavy (PE4–6, 3.20–3.66m) handles heavier sinkers. Backline Slim (3.66–4.27m, 25–35lb) and Backline Big Bait Special (4.01–4.62m, 20–80lb) come in mid- and low-mount spin versions, and there's an overhead Drone Spec for big baits and drone drops. For general beach fishing, about 3.0–3.7m is a practical start. Go to 4.0m and longer when you need maximum distance, heavier sinkers or clearance over the break.
Jigging Rods
Slow pitch: Slow Element is where most anglers start. It has a slow-pitch-style tip with a powerful lower blank for jigs and soft plastics, and comes in spin, spiral-wrap (acid wrap) overhead and traditional overhead, PE2–4.
Origin gives a crisper, Japanese-style action. There's the Slow Jigging overhead and the Spin Jigger (both PE0.8–3), and Origin Longfall (2.21m / 7'3", PE0.8–4) for long-fall jigs.
Elementus is the flagship family:
- Slow Pitch in spin, spiral and traditional overhead (PE2–4)
- Long Style (2.01m / 6'7")
- Micro Style (PE0.8–1.5) for small jigs on skippy and King George whiting
- Deep Jigging (PE4–6+, jigs to 1kg) for deep-water bass grouper and hapuku
- AHI Spec (PE8–10+), a heavy speed-jigging rod for tuna, not a slow pitch rod
Solist Titanium (PE2–4) is the top-end slow pitch rod, with a Fuji titanium-carbon reel seat and titanium SiC guides.
Deep Element (PE4–10) is a faster-action heavy slow pitch rod that also works for bait.
Heavy vertical jigging: Adrenalin Deep Game (PE1.5–4 to PE5–10, spin and overhead) has a medium-fast action with a smooth, progressive power curve for samsonfish, amberjack and kingfish. Adrenalin Light Game (PE1–3.5, 50–220g) covers micro and light jigging. Vengeance (PE3–6 to PE6–10) is the heavy fast-pitch rod for dogtooth, big kingfish and samsonfish.

Which Oceans Legacy rod should I start with for slow pitch jigging dhufish and pink snapper?
Slow Element is the usual starting point: PE2–4 in spin, spiral-wrap or traditional overhead. Origin gives a crisper Japanese-style action, Elementus Slow Pitch is the flagship, and Solist Titanium is the top of the range. Match the PE rating and jig weight to the depth and current you fish.
Which Oceans Legacy rod suits samsonfish?
For jigging, use Adrenalin Deep Game, Elementus Deep Jigging or Vengeance in a PE rating that suits your jig weight. For casting stickbaits when samsonfish are on the surface, look at Focal II, Aggressor or Raptus.
Is Insight a bream rod?
Only some models. Insight has 15 spin and baitcast models from 6–12lb up to 20–30lb for creek, estuary, bay and reef-flat lure fishing. For true bream and whiting finesse, choose Quest Inshore Finesse or Insight BFS.
How do I choose between Focal II and Aggressor?
Focal II is a versatile PE2–8 casting range for stickbaits, poppers, metals and soft plastics. Aggressor (PE6–10, plus Long Cast models) is a dedicated heavy plugging rod. They overlap at PE6–8, so choose on length, casting weight and the lures you throw most. For GTs and heavy popping, look at Raptus (PE8–12).
Which Oceans Legacy rod for the beach and rocks?
Dream Cast and Dream Cast II suit light shore casting for tailor, salmon and mackerel. Long Cast Specialist and Genesis step up for bigger fish from the rocks. Aurora Surf and Backline cover surf fishing, and the Backline Drone Spec suits drone fishing.
Is every Elementus rod a slow pitch rod?
No. Elementus includes Slow Pitch, Long Style, Micro Style and Deep Jigging models, plus the AHI Spec, a PE8–10+ speed-jigging rod for tuna. Check the specific model.
