What is HAGANE?
HAGANE is Shimano's design concept for reels built to withstand continual use. HAGANE Gear is the cold-forged drive gear, whose teeth are 3D-modelled and forged whole rather than cut. HAGANE Body is the high-rigidity metal body that stops flex under load. It's a concept, not a single part.
Which Shimano spin reel is best under $250?
The Sedona, Nasci and Sienna are the entry reels that still have the HAGANE Gear, and the Nexave and Catana below them. A Nasci 2500 on a Raider is a setup that'll outlast a lot of first boats.
Which Shimano reel for samsonfish and tuna off Rottnest?
For jigging, the Ocea Jigger overhead or a Twinpower SW and Stella SW in 8000 to 14000. For casting stickbaits at fish on the surface, a Saragosa SW, Twinpower SW or Stella SW in 14000 to 18000. The Saragosa is the tough offshore reel at a fair price; the Stella SW is the top of the tree.
Is the Ocea Jigger a game reel?
No. The Ocea Jigger is a star-drag overhead jigging reel (except the LD variant, which is lever drag). For trolling and game fishing, the Talica is the compact lever drag in 12 to 50 sizes and the Tiagra is the full big-game reel.
