What tools do I need as a beginner?
Quality long-nose pliers (hook removal, split rings), sharp knife or braid scissors, fish grip, and measuring device. Add specialised tools as you progress.
Best pliers for saltwater?
Stainless steel, titanium, or aluminium with corrosion-resistant coatings. HPA titanium, Shimano, and Oceans Legacy are built for saltwater. Always rinse after use.
Do I need a landing net?
Makes securing fish much easier and is better for catch-and-release. Rubber mesh is gentlest on fish. For boat/kayak fishing, a telescopic handle net is essential.
