Skirted Trolling Lures
Skirted trolling lures are the bread and butter of offshore game fishing — designed to be trolled behind a boat at speed, creating a trail of bubbles, splashes, and erratic action that triggers strikes from marlin, tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, and other pelagic predators. These lures feature shaped resin or metal heads with colourful octopus-style skirts, each head shape producing a different action from subtle swimming to aggressive smoke trails.
Western Australia's game fishing grounds are world-class, and a well-curated lure spread is essential for success. Whether you're trolling the Exmouth grounds for black marlin, running lures along the continental shelf off Perth for yellowfin tuna and wahoo, or working the Abrolhos Islands for mahi mahi and mackerel, the right skirted lures make all the difference. Head shapes, sizes, and skirt colours should be matched to conditions — darker colours in clearer water, brighter patterns in dirty water, and varied head styles across your spread.
At Compleat Angler Nedlands, we carry an extensive skirted trolling lure range from Bonze (Anaconda, Diesel, Hercules, Jackhammer, Punisher, Trojan, Violator, and more), Richter (Dorado, Metal Babe, Tornado, KyKy, Oscar, Plug series), Lure One (Bullet, Scoop Jet, Cup Jet, Pop, Ball, Barrel, PWL), and C and H Lures (Pearl Baby, King Buster). From small teasers to heavy-duty marlin lures, we have the gear to build your spread.

What skirted lures are best for marlin fishing?
For marlin, larger skirted lures in the 8–12 inch range with aggressive head shapes work best. The Bonze Jackhammer, Hercules, and Punisher are proven marlin catchers, while the Lure One Scoop Jet and Richter Dorado are also excellent choices. Run a mix of head styles in your spread for the best results.
How do I set up a trolling lure spread?
A standard trolling spread runs 4–6 lures at varying distances behind the boat. Place larger, heavier lures on the long corners (furthest back), medium lures on the short corners, and smaller lures or teasers on the flat lines. Vary your head shapes and colours across positions for maximum appeal.
What trolling lure brands do you stock?
We stock skirted trolling lures from Bonze, Richter, Lure One, and C and H Lures. Our range covers everything from small teasers and daisy chains to heavy-duty marlin lures, available rigged or unrigged. We also carry rigging supplies including hooks, skirts, and waxed thread.
Should I buy rigged or unrigged trolling lures?
Rigged lures are ready to fish straight from the packet — great for convenience and ensuring correct hook placement. Unrigged lures let you customise your hook setup, leader material, and rigging style to suit your preferences and target species. We stock both options across our range.
