What makes a fishing drone different?
Purpose-built fishing drones have: waterproof/resistant bodies, bait release mechanisms, greater lift capacity (500g-1.5kg), and longer battery life than camera drones. Regular DJI drones aren't suitable.
How much is a fishing drone?
Quality fishing drones range from $1500-4000+. It's a significant investment but opens up fishing opportunities impossible from shore. Many Perth anglers rate it as their best fishing purchase.
Do I need a drone license?
Under 250g: no registration needed (but fishing drones are heavier). Over 250g: must register with CASA and follow standard drone rules (visual line of sight, below 120m, away from airports/people).
What conditions can I fly in?
Avoid strong winds (15+ knots), rain, and low visibility. Early morning (calm conditions) is ideal for drone fishing — which also happens to be when fish are most active. Win-win.
