What skirted lures for tuna?
Small to medium (6-9") lures in blue/white, green/yellow, or pink/white. Run them in the wash or short rigger positions. Tuna respond to fast-trolled lures with tight actions.
How do I rig skirted lures?
Thread leader through the lure head, attach a hook set (usually 2 hooks in tandem), and secure with crimps and thimbles. The rig should run straight without spinning. We can show you rigging techniques in-store.
What head shape for what conditions?
Flat-face: big smoke trail, calm to moderate seas. Angled: good in rough water, track well. Cup-face: big blooping action, attract from distance. Bullet: fast trolling, minimal splash.
How many lures in a spread?
A typical spread runs 4-7 lures at different distances and positions — short corner, long corner, short rigger, long rigger, shotgun. Start with 4 and add as you gain experience.
