What size sounder screen do I need?

7" minimum for readability. 9" is ideal for most recreational boats. 12-16" for dedicated fishing vessels or if mounting further from the helm. Bigger screens show more detail.

Do I need CHIRP sonar?

Highly recommended — CHIRP provides dramatically better target separation and detail compared to traditional sonar. It distinguishes individual fish from structure more clearly.

Can I install a sounder myself?

Basic transom-mount installations are DIY-friendly with some electrical knowledge. Through-hull transducers and complex networking are best professionally installed. We can recommend installers.

Lowrance vs Simrad sounders?

Same parent company, similar technology. Lowrance: fishing-focused interface, recreational pricing. Simrad: premium build, better networking, autopilot integration. Both excellent for Perth conditions.
